Ryde, Isle of Wight. Sun’s fading into the night. I’m writing this on my iPhone. Travelled light. Camera, phone. They’ll do.

An idea. Write about 35mm photography. The craft, like. Not the gear. Everyone writes about the gear. Ah, wait. What about the craft? What specifics? No point writing tutorials. I’m not a guru. Could be a bad idea.

Leave it. But I have things to say. Difficult one. Write a few posts. See what comes out. Give it a go.

While I chewed the idea over, something clicked. I took photos today. Sun beaming, deep blue sky. Nikon FE2 loaded with UltraMax 400. The photos came easy. Being by the sea with the sunshine. Perfect.

That’s when it hit me. Write about that. Not the techie stuff. The feeling. I thought it’d be a nerdy guide to analogue photography. It isn’t. It’s an emotional one. A journey.

Funny how that happens. You plan to go one way and get nudged another. How it makes you feel matters more than some film stock spec sheet.

That’s the kicker. Shooting 35mm is about feeling the photos. Digital is efficient. Machine-like. Analogue is hit-and-miss. You load the film. You shoot, you hope. And when they come out? That feeling? Yeah, that’s the bit.

Tomorrow, we’ll be walking for miles. SLR round my neck. I’ll see the photos. I’ll feel how they’ll look. Then I’ll click.

Dark now. First draft done. Camera cleaned and ready for tomorrow.
